Timeline of Important Events for Women in Mount Prospect 1854 Saint John opens as the first school in Mount Prospect 1895 Central School opens as the first public school 1914 Women allowed to vote for the first time on an expenditure of funds that dealt with the movement for a high school district 1917 Village of Mount Prospect is incorporated 1926 Dr. Louise Koester becomes the first doctor of Mount Prospect 1927 The Mount Prospect Women’s Club is founded with service being the aim of the club 1927 The Campfire Girls are granted a charter in Mount Prospect 1930 The Mount Prospect Library opens in its first location out of the cloakroom of the schoolhouse with members of the Women’s Club acting as librarian 1955 The Mount Prospect Evening Women’s Club holds its first meeting for women who are employed or who have pre-school aged children and can’t make the day meetings. This will later become the Mount Prospect Junior Women’s Club in 1958. 1956 The Mount Prospect Nurse’s Club is founded which establishes and maintained a lending closet providing the distribution of free hospital equipment to residents 1960 Mount Prospect Business and Professional Women’s Club established representing women in all calls of jobs and careers. This will later become the Business and Professional Women Northwest in 1985. 1967 Five women found the Mount Prospect Historical Society 1977 Carolyn Krause is elected the first woman Mayor of Mount Prospect 1980 Dolores Haugh becomes the Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce
