Mount Prospect Public Library
One major resource offered by the Mount Prospect Public Library is the Digital Past Page which makes close to 400 photographs available on-line. This site is is a part of the North Suburban Library System and displays images from the collections of both the Mount Prospect Historical Society and the Mount Prospect Public Library. The site can be found at: Digital Past. The Library also has a number of resources that are available in the Library, they are as follows. The local history collection of the Mount Prospect Public Library consists of the following major items. 1. Local History File Included are newspaper clippings, brochures, and documents related to the people, businesses, buildings, organizations, schools and other aspects of Mount Prospect and the surrounding area. 2. Telephone directories Books listing the people in the area of Mount Prospect who owned telephones. The dates included are 1911, 1919, 1927, 1933-1956, 1959, 1961, 1964. Business Directories from the 1960s and early 1970s are also available. 3. Newspapers Microfilm of the Daily Herald and its precursors are available, 1901-present. 4. Census U.S. Federal Census for Elk Grove and Wheeling Townships are available for the years 1860-1920. Microfilm rolls for the city of Chicago, 1880 and 1900 are also available. 5. Obituaries An in house obituary index for the years 1998-present is available. Also available are indexes to the deaths listed in the Daily Herald/Paddock Publications for the years 1926-1940, 1941-1950, and 1990-1991 Other resources are available at the Mount Prospect Public Library's web site http://www.mppl.org |
