7 S. Maple Street - Fred Biermann House

The house at 7 S. Maple was originally located at 117 S. Maple.  It was the home of Fred Biermann after he moved to Mount Prospect in 1911.  Fred originally lived in Elk Grove, in what is now Busse Woods.  In 1911, Fred was convinced by William Busse to move to Mount Prospect, a town of only 149 people, to plow and grade the roads.  His son, Frank, also made the move to Mount Prospect in 1911 with his father.

Frank Biermann became an important member of the community as Fire Chief and owner of Busse-Biermann Hardware.  After his move to the town in 1911, Frank married Helen Busse in June 1919, daughter of William Busse.  They lived at 105 S. Elm which Frank had built in 1928.  While the town was being organized, the Volunteer Fire Department was established at a meeting in the Central School in 1913.  By 1915, Frank was a member and in 1928 he was elected fire chief, a position he held until 1956.

Frank was also well known in the community as the friendly owner of Busse-Biermann Hardware. In 1920 Frank began working for the Busse’s in their hardware store.  In 1929 the business was sold to him and turned into Busse-Biermann Hardware, which was located at 12 W Busse.
