50 S. Emerson - Village Hall

This modern, state of the art building is the new Village Hall, home to the Village Administration, the Manager's Office,  Finance Department, Community Development Department, Television Services and Information Technology Divisions of Mount Prospect.  It also houses a Senior/Community Center and the Human Services Department that administers the the community programs offered there. Construction on the site began in 2002, with work on the village parking deck and in 2003, construction, began on the Village hall. The site was designed by DLK Architects and constructed by W.B.Olson, The building was ready for use and dedicated on October 2, 2004.

Mount Prospect’s Village Hall did not always stand at this location, however.  Before the incorporation of the town in 1917, the Mount Prospect Improvement Association was founded to help administer the needs of the growing population in the area.  Established in 1911, this group did not have its own building, but rather used the Central School as its meeting hall.

After incorporation, a municipal building was built at 203 E. Evergreen Street. This building originally housed all of the municipal services for the village, including the Fire Department, Police Department, and the local jail. This building was used by the Village Government until 1975, although by then the Village services had expand into more than one building.  Parts of this building were also used as a police firing range after it no longer housed the municipal functions of the town.

In 1949, a Police and Fire station was constructed at 112 E. Northwest Highway. This building served the town until 1991 when it was demolished to make way for a new building on the same location which was dedicated in June of 1993. In November of 1975 the municipal functions of the town moved to a new location at 100 S. Emerson Street . This building was originally constructed in 1967 as the third home of the Mount Prospect State Bank. This building was used until the dedication of the most recent building in 2004. In 1977, the 203 E. Evergreen building was pressed back into community service through a movement by the Mount Prospect Historical Society, which renovated part of the building to be used by the Society as a small village Museum. The building was demolished in 1991.
