18 - 20 W. Busse and 105 – 111 S. Main Street

Sitting on these two locations are two twin buildings that have come to represent a part of downtown Mount Prospect.  Throughout the years, these two buildings have been home to a number of businesses, both big and small, that have been important to the town’s history.   

The buildings were constructed in 1926/7 by William Busse. Their style is Tudor, a popular choice in suburban design of the 1920s. 

The building on Busse, with the landmark Busse chimney first housed Busse-Biermann Hardware, which served the community for many years. Other notable businesses include the Mount Prospect Bowling Alley, a popular hang out until the 1960s when a fire forced it to close.  Today this building is home to Ye Olde Town Inn as well as some offices.

The Main Street Building also has a long history of tenants. William Busse Jr.’s General store was located on this block, built in the 1880s by Louis Busse.  Another building in this stretch that no longer stands is the Old Newspaper Building, home to the Mount Prospect Day newspaper.  This building was demolished sometime in the 1980s or 1990s.  Today you can find Sakura Restaurant, Picket Fence Reality, Mount Prospect Chamber of Commerce
