The 7 Wonders |
Finalists for Seven Wonders of Mount Prospect announced The Seven Wonders committee has announced the ten finalists that will be put to the community for a vote. “We received quite a few submissions, many of which were really interesting, but in the end, we had to narrow it down to a manageable number, so we voted, using blind ballots, and picked the ten finalists.” said Gavin W. Kleespies, Executive Director of the Historical Society. “The process so far has been really interesting, I think we have all learned something new about our community and what people find exciting about it.” said Pam Nelson, seven wonders committee member. “I was surprised to learn that the columns in the pond at Huntington Commons used to be a part of the Chicago Stock Exchange, it’s amazing what turns up when you ask the people to share something that makes the community special.” said Judy Lamac, also a committee member. In the coming days, the Historical Society will put up voting stations around town. There will be a voting station in the Public Library, Village Hall, the Historical Society and other locations that will be announced as they become available. Anyone can vote; you just put some change or a dollar or whatever amount you would like into the container for the wonder you would like to support. The seven wonders that raise the most money will be named the Seven Wonders of Mount Prospect for 2008. More information to come! We’re looking for the Seven Wonders of Mount Prospect! What is it in Mount Prospect that you think is really amazing? What do you think is a wonder of our suburban world? The Mount Prospect Historical Society wants to know. We are looking for nominations for the Seven Wonders (past and present) of Mount Prospect this year and we would like to hear from you. If you have an idea of something you would like to nominate, fill out a form explaining what it is you would like to nominate, why you think it is a wonder, and return this form to the Historical Society (Seven Wonders C/O The Mount Prospect Historical Society 101 S. Maple Street Mount Prospect, IL 60056). The forms can be picked up at The Historical Society, The Mount Prospect Public Library or Village Hall; or you can download one here. You can nominate a building, a park, a business, a person, an organization or pretty much anything you think is a wonder in the community. We will accept nominations until May 15th. When all the submissions have been gathered, we will set up spaces for the community to vote by making donations to support their choice around the village. Funds raised through this project will be used to support the Mount Prospect Historical Society’s work to preserve community history. The winners will be the seven wonders that raise the most through donations and will be announced at our Back to School Bash at Bogie’s on August 22, 2008. |
